About the Sydney Sikhs Sports Club

The SSSC was founded in 1989 and formally entered into the kabbadi and football tournaments at the Australian Sikh Games that year. The core group of players making up the club had been playing together in other clubs and competitions since 1987.

Today, the club provides a structure for the training and preparation required for the various competitions that the SSSC competes in each year. Coaches and managers have been appointed for the kabbadi, football and hockey teams. Family and friends volunteer to assist in running the club. The community supports the club financially to help with equipment, team kits and travel costs.

The club was registered as a not-for-profit organisation in 2008. Its member base has expanded significantly in recent years with the introduction of a second men's football team, a netball team and a youth football team. The club has actively recruited overseas students as a means of helping the students to integrate with the local Australian and Sikh community. This has also included financial assistance provided to student players such as training gear, travel and accommodation.

Role of the Club

The club represents a way for its members, including current and past players, to stay connected with the Sikh community while also competing in their chosen sports.

The club maintains connections with the various Gurduwaras (Sikh temples) in the Sydney area and organises events for the community during the year including an annual dinner and awards night and local kabbadi and football competitions.

Club Honours

Many of the club's teams train on weekends throughout the entire year with mid-week training introduced in the lead-up to major tournaments. The SSSC football and hockey teams are Division 1 calibre in most district competitions in Sydney. Many of our players have competed at State level and also play regularly for other clubs during the season.

It is this level of dedication that has seen the club become one of the strongest performers at the Australian Sikh Games with honours including:

• 7x Griffith Sikh Games Mens Finalists, 5x Champions

Kabbadi

• Multiple winners of Australian Sikh Games
• Multiple winners of Griffith Sikh Games

Hockey

• Multiple Australian Sikh Games Champions

Other Sports

• Touch Football Champions, Australian Sikh Games
